Our story started with the project
"Unsere Tänze, Unsere Tänz"
Our story began with a shared question: How can we create a space of encounters, one that is equal and that allows political, social, and embodied expressions to coexist in a creative way?
This questions allowed a non-hierarchical community space where people can meet beyond words to be created on November 2022 by Asylarbeitskreis Heidelberg e.V. Rooted in Dance and Movement Therapy (DMT) and circle dance practices, the project offers a safe social space and explores non-verbal communication, cultural identity, resilience, and belonging through embodied and creative experience.
Dancing together with circle dances became both a method and a metaphor: connecting to the circle, sharing rhythm, witnessing one another, and activating body memory as a tool for connection. Rather than working within closed dance studios or isolated integration settings, the intention was to allow this activation in spaces that are already part of everyday community life. Through shared movement, storytelling, and ritual, dance becomes a healing and unifying force that supports collective expression and mutual recognition.
Today, the project aims to foster equal, trustful, and sustainable relationships between immigrants, refugees, and locals by using creative, and non-verbal tools to transform coexistence into community.
